Moving bees at night is a common practice in Australian beekeeping - our girls have finished pollinating Almonds and are now arriving on Canola. We haven't been in this game long, but we are proud of the goals we have kicked so far...none more than those achieved in the last 12-18 months... Can you spot the Queen? This is one of our new spring queens. Despite her title she doesn't rule the hive. Her primary role in the colony is to reproduce. She can lay up to 1500 eggs each day - that's more than her own body weight in eggs! But don't worry, she's looked after. What a beautiful spot to take a break. She deserves it too! In one collection trip she will visit 50-100 flowers and fly at speeds up to 24km/hr. Her hive will fly more than once around the world to make 1/2kg of honey, and their pollination services are essential for 1/3 of total food production.
